How You Study

Students can critically examine mental health conditions within the framework of prevailing UK health policies. By analysing diverse factors influencing assessment and management, students are able to gain insights that resonate with the contemporary priorities outlined in the UK mental health strategy.

The course also focuses on person-centred care, something which is particularly pertinent given the emphasis on individualised and inclusive approaches in recent UK health policy developments. Practical exercises enable students to actively engage in the principles advocated by policies, ensuring a seamless alignment with the overarching goals of person-centred care.

Students will also have the opportunity to explore legal and ethical frameworks. Components such as the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards are integral to the UK health policy framework, making this knowledge crucial for students aiming to navigate these policies effectively.

By grounding the course objectives in the context of UK health policy, it not only equips students with theoretical knowledge but also prepares them to contribute responsibly and proactively to the ongoing efforts to enhance mental health care within the UK's healthcare system.
